Background:
In this study, we
will investigate the parasiticidal activity of selected indigenous plants extracts using established quantitative bioassays. These plants
are well known in Ghana locally as folk medicines for helminthic, protozoal,
and bacterial infections, but are uncharacterized in terms of their true
potential as formal medical treatments. Once the relevant bioactivities of
these plants are established using the bioassays, we will
fractionate the extracts into their component fractions, and hone in on the
individual chemicals responsible for the bioactivities measured for further
investigation and chemical optimization at the Consortium
for Neglected Tropical Diseases and One Health in Ghana
