Background & Goals

Our Unit embodies a commitment to a comprehensive and interconnected approach that addresses the complex interplay between human, animal, and environmental health. Rooted in the foundational philosophy of One Health, our unit recognizes the imperative of collaborating across disciplines to tackle emerging health challenges and foster sustainable solutions. Foundational Philosophy: The One Health Unit operates on the fundamental principle that the health of humans, animals, and ecosystems is intricately linked. This holistic perspective acknowledges the interdependencies between these domains and serves as the guiding philosophy for our research initiatives and collaborative efforts. Roles: At the heart of our mission is the role of bridging silos between human, animal, and environmental health. The One Health Unit actively engages in research and initiatives that transcend traditional boundaries, fostering a shared understanding of health challenges that impact both populations and ecosystems. Interdisciplinary Activities: Our activities epitomize interdisciplinarity, spanning collaborative research, surveillance, and intervention strategies. Whether investigating zoonotic disease transmission pathways or assessing the impact of environmental factors on public health, our unit employs a multifaceted approach to comprehensively address health challenges at the intersection of humans, animals, and the environment. Disease Dynamics: The One Health Unit strategically focuses on understanding the dynamics of diseases that traverse species barriers. By studying the complex interactions between humans, animals, and ecosystems, our researchers contribute to the identification and mitigation of health risks at the human-animal-environment interface, recognizing the potential for spillover events and the emergence of novel infectious agents. Collaboration and Partnerships: Collaboration is woven into the fabric of our unit's strategy. Internally, we collaborate seamlessly within NeTroDisOH, fostering interdisciplinary partnerships. Externally, we actively engage with national and international organizations, governmental bodies, and research institutions that share our commitment to the One Health approach. Through these partnerships, we amplify the impact of our research and interventions on a global scale. Impact on Global Health: The One Health Unit is dedicated to promoting the well-being of populations, ecosystems, and future generations. Our research and collaborative initiatives contribute to a more resilient and integrated approach to health, addressing emerging challenges that require comprehensive solutions at the convergence of human, animal, and environmental health. Explore our ongoing projects and publications to gain insights into the transformative impact of the One Health approach on global health outcomes.
