Anabel Acheampong
Background:
Anabel Acheampong is a highly skilled molecular biologist/parasitologist with a Master’s degree in Parasitology. She also serves as the head for Parasitology Unit at the Consortium for Neglected Tropical Diseases and One Health (NeTroDisOH), at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Ghana. Anabel's interest lies in neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), emerging infectious diseases (EIDs), and the One Health approach to addressing complex health challenges.
Anabel is a member of professional organizations including the British Society of Parasitology, and the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. She is also a member of the WHO Skin NTD Working Group. Her involvement in these organizations reflects her commitment to staying updated on the latest advancements and best practices in the field of parasitology and tropical medicine.
Research Focus and Skills:
Anabel's research interests center around discovering therapeutic, diagnostic, and vaccine targets for NTDs and EIDs. Her current research project focuses on identifying novel chokepoint enzymes with potential as therapeutic, diagnostic, and vaccination targets in Onchocerca volvulus parasites. Through her research studies, Anabel is dedicated to advancing our understanding of parasitic diseases and developing innovative solutions to combat them.
Future Aspiration:
Anabel's dedication to her research has afforded her opportunities to collaborate with renowned global scientists in the field and has acquired new research tools and techniques. Her skillsets include molecular biology tools such as Primer design, PCR, gel electrophoresis, Primer-Blast and Clustal Omega. These have contributed to her ability to conduct cutting-edge research and contribute valuable insights to the scientific community.
